100 Years of Sea Scouting in New Zealand

& now not just for boys

2010 is the 100th anniversary of the Sea Scout Branch of Scouting New Zealand
Started in England one year earlier by Warrington Baden-Powell, Lord Robert Baden-Powell's
older brother, with an activity on board the Training Ship the Mercury from
7th - 21st August 1909. It was, if you like, the Sea Scout equivalent of Brownsea Island.

Did you know the Kiwi connection with the origins of Sea Scouting?

Warrington’s wife, Cicely Hilda Farmer was born at One Tree Hill, Auckland, New Zealand on 13th September 1870

New Zealand Sea Scout Groups are encouraged to
* consider reunions of past members,
* compile a history of their Group
* hold special activities during the year especially in August 2009
* Use the centenary year to raise public awareness of Sea Scouting.
